So, that much is absolute fact.... >SOMETHING happened. <snip> ... above by RYFYRMAN91 5/8/98 I heard the shuttle land at NASA (Kennedy) several days ago ... it seems to have a double sonic boom (spaced about a second apart, that would depend on speed of landing approach, and I was about 100 miles away from landing site). When I asked an aeronautical engineer who used to work at NASA she said the double boom is because the high tail is outside the usual super-sonic cone ... thus you get a shock wave from two areas (thus two BOOMS). If this is indeed true, then a shuttle should show two booms as a sonic signature. I am not an expert, but would like to see some comment whether this is indeed true. (This may not post, as this is my 1st attempt to answer a net post) HRC
