Since when does theory, conjecture, belief, and faith constitute
"proof" or "positive identification". I find your suggestion
somewhat amusing since I've had others indicate that they believe
the term UFOlogist refers to a person whose mind is so open that
their brains are falling out. They don't want to be associated
with the term for that reason.

Until those "lights in the sky" are positively identified, or the
"(secret) government" comes forward and tells all, I think the
term UFO retains validity and thus the term UFOlogist also
remains current. This would not be a move toward public
acceptance of the ETH, but would lend itself to greater ridicule
by those who are already critical of the genre.
