You're wrong.  There's a HUGE difference between then and now.
Now thusands, if not hundreds of thousands, of experiencers are
speaking out, at least to those they feel will listen.  Not that
we didn't exist in 1969, but we weren't talking.  Not that anyone
is listening (with a few notable exceptions), but we're
contributing to the general scheme of things now.
