From: jan@cyberzone.net (Jan Aldrich) Date: Sun, 24 May 1998 16:31:25 -0700 Fwd Date: Mon, 25 May 1998 03:00:43 -0400 Subject: Registry of UFO Collections Greetings List Members, We have started on the task of gathering information for a Registry of UFO Collections which will become a computer data bank. The announcement of the Keyhoe Archives contains the type of information we seek. We welcome information on collections in institutions and in private hands. Eventually, we plan to place the public information on a website. E-mail information to jan@cyberzone.net or to Project 1947, P. O. Box 391, Canterbury, CT 06331, USA, Tel # 860-546-9135 Provisionally, we have decided on four categories for collections: I. Collections available. This will be the main category. Information on known collections, location, content, and accessibility will be contained in these entries. II. Negative Results. (Collections lost, sold, transferred or destroyed.) For example: earlier we posted the results of an inquiry to June Larson. She retained no material having given it to Dr. James McDonald, Ivan Sanderson, Dr. Herbert Strenz, and the Library of Congress. III. Confidential data (privacy protection is required.) Certain UFO researchers have fallen on difficult times or want to be left completely alone. Such information will be compiled, but will only be available by request from serious researchers on approval of the registry's access committee. (A small group or researchers will act on such requests.) (See below.) IV. Requests for assistance (Collections, items, or people which researchers are currently seeking.) We also intend to post requests from researchers for specific information. The last time I consulted the listing of personal papers available at archives, universities and libraries there were less than a dozen UFO entries. If you have visited or know of such collections, please pass the information to us. Best regards, Jan -- Jan Aldrich Project 1947 http://www.iufog.org/project1947/ PRIVATE LIST. Several people have indicated that they have material they are willing to have registered for other researchers to use in very limited circumstances. Those wishing privacy would in some case be willing to have contact with these researchers through third parties such as the registry committee. If the above applies your collection, please indicate this by marking it "PRIVATE LIST." OTHER LANGUAGES. Descriptions of collections in languages other than English are acceptable. Please include a brief English summary, also.
