November 1, 1998 No surprise, but quite a bit slower the week after Halloween. I'm quoted quite a bit in the November issue of FATE magazine( <A HREF="http://www.fatemag.com/">FATE</A>). The author, Marcia Jedd, and I had a few phone conversations in relationship to her article WHEN GHOSTS ATTACK. We also did some by e-mail, which I tend to prefer. It's very flattering to be in their along with such authorities as Loyd Auerbach and Brad Steiger. The article does overstate my belief in the statements I'm making: as regular readers know, I try not to come to conclusions about reported phenomena. For example, I may be giving her a rundown on a popular theory, couching it with terms like "theoretically", "allegedly", and "reportedly", and all that gets stripped. I'd happily do something with her again, but it's just one of the dangers of print. I like doing live radio the best: you've got the best opportunity to clarifly, if necessary. Newspapers give you the worst shot to be presented the way you want: magazines generally have fact-checkers, but newspapers (on these topics, anyway) don't have the time.
