Michael Unum, author and >researcher had planned an ambitious 340 mile bicycle trip from >Monticello, Utah, which was to begin Oct. 4th and end Oct. 8th >or 9th. His destination was Gallup, New Mexico. <snip> >On Oct. 6th Unum was leaving Cortez, Colorado, when he was >followed by a Federal police car for a short time. Who are the "Federal police"? Never heard of them. A few miles south of town he would have entered the Ute Mountain Indian Reservation, maybe the car belonged to the reservation police. And so what, anyway? >Four hours later when he was 11 miles north of Shiprock, New >Mexico near the Ute Mountain Indian Reservation, he was forced >off the road by a blue Air Force-type mechanics truck. The >civilian driver "pulled right in front of me and stopped suddenly >forcing me into the ditch. He then got out of the truck and >inspected his tires and adjusted his mirror. He never once >looked at me." Fatigue and shock prevented Unum from >responding to the attack ... the bike's front fork and rim were >seriously damaged. A couple days previously I had been in this area and on this same stretch of highway and had noticed a number of bicyclists. The Mesa Verde National Park is nearby. I saw an older guy peddling across a desolate stretch of road through Monument Valley a few miles to the West. Unfortunately, apparently deliberate road attacks like this on non-UFOlogical cyclists are common all around the country. Where I come from in Pennsylvania they often come from laughing pick-up drivers like this one. A neighbor of mine was badly hurt a few years ago by a pick-up truck driver who knocked him over to skid on the road, and left laughing. My friend peddled 20 miles to a hospital. Too bad, and I'm very glad that Mr. Unum was not hurt, beyond being shook up. But, so what? Did he make a complaint to the Navaho Reservation Police, where he was when the incident occurred? No much elso one could do. What is an "Air Force-type mechanics truck", driven by a civilian? Could Unum or our informant be more specific before putting this kind of paranoia on the net? I'll bet the Air Force has more important things to do than intimidate bicyclists on a well-travelled public highway who are really UFOlogists in disguise (see pixs on website). Give us a break!
