UFO related material, in fact, can only be >>found under the New Age banner.... >>This is interesting in that it reflects the manner in which this >>subject is perceived by the ROW (Rest Of the World)..... the ROW >>being anyone not interested in the subject sufficiently to >>actually look for books on the subject ... therefore those who >>are (interested in the subject) immediately flock to the New Age >>section in order to find UFO material and we wonder why the hell >>it's there! Poltergeists and etc. >>Hmmm.... on the other hand.....?!? Nah. >>Jim Mortellaro >Many years ago I naively asked where the UFO books were in a >large local non-chain bookstore. This particular store was a >sort of haunt for left-of-center self-styled intellectuals, >among other things. >(One time some neo-nazi type fired a bullet through the plate >glass window! Fortunately he was caught.) >The fellow behind the counter, who appeared to write me off as a >dolt, directed me to the Occult section. I believe I detected a >note of self righteousness. (Is self-leftousness a word? ) >I found a rather poor selection of UFO books, but there were >tons of stuff on astrology, Edgar Cayce .. you name it .. even >different versions of the Tarot deck, all artful and pricey. >Now, at least at Barnes and Noble, I find them in the >"Alternative Reality" section, ( my term, I forget how they >labeled those shelves ) which is basically new age, new >religion, with a lot of occult sprinkled in. >I do not expect to find UFO books sandwiched in between >the classics of physics and chemistry. >What they could do, space permitting, would be to set aside a >shelf or two for fringe sciences; subjects like exobiology, >xenobiology (bigfoot/loch-ness monster etc.), ESP and a host of >other topics that are interesting but unproven. >But, aha! Therein lies the rub! >All the stuff I frown on would try to jump onto the same shelf! >Astrologers would point to what they consider good evidence. >Remote viewing, near-death experience, every guest Art Bell ever >had .. they would all demand space on this same shelf! Personally, I hope that when my first book comes out in the USA next January it will be placed with aviation and popular science books. This is certainly what I requested from the publishers! UFO books in the UK are housed either in popular science or 'Mind, Body and Spirit' - Waterstones and Dillons in any case.. This is not a good thing - especially for those of use who remain entirely unconvinced by the UFO-ET 'link'. I haven't had any bullets yet - although my P.O.Box in Southport did receive some razor blades. How kind..... Tim
