I was working >very closely with Moore and was present when he gave his >infamous talk in Las Vegas and chided him strongly about it >later. I've had trouble coming up with more than the vaguest timing on certain crucial events. According to Blum, AFOSI began their disinfo campaign against Bennewitz sometime in 1980, while Moore began meeting with Bennewitz sometime in 1981. Peebles says Bennewitz began his investigation of Hansen in August 1979, but Clark and others say she wasn't abducted until May 5, 1980. Both Clark and Cannon say Bennewitz became paranoid shortly after this, so it's hard to say whether this correlates better with Bennewitz's involvement with Hansen or with AFOSI. (Stan is, of course, correct on his point.) It's also my impression that, not only the timing, but the degree of Bennewitz's involvement is sometimes exaggerated. First, I don't know of any evidence of his participation other than his confession. Second, he only confessed to monitoring AFOSI's progress and reporting back to them. His story is that AFOSI drove Bennewitz over the edge, albiet with Moore's more passive cooperation. I haven't seen evidence that Moore himself passed any disinformation to Bennewitz. Kind regards, Keith
