This is >true for Internet lists as well. I beg to diagree ; ) Newspapers and the Internet are NOT the same. The latter is (or was meant to be) a medium that allows equal opportunity to express one's opinions "uncensored". You either believe what it says or you disagree. Newspapers, and I mean the established mainstream variety, are totally censored and IMHO are flagrant violators as far as reporting "truth" is concerned. They all follow "the official line" (in case you haven't noticed?) Newspapers edit their content and are slanted to reflect a particular point of view. Editorial control on a mailing list is usually restricted to permitting, or not permitting a particular message to be posted. It does not usually edit its content, and should not (except perhaps for typographical errors, formatting, etc). I would hope if content is edited it be done with the permission of the author. In the case of CAUS postings being deferred from UASR's list, this is a matter of "discretionary" censorship in that SPECIFIC ideas and opinions from a particular faction of the "neighborhood" (i.e., UFO community at large and those known personalities and organizations who regularly post to certain Internet ufo-related e-mail lists). Although UASR's actions, and those who followed suit, represents a biased attitude towards certain views, it is not to be perceived as "outright" censorship of material contained within a document, but rather a broader censorship of opinion deemed to be contrary to the list owner's point of view but not necessarily all its subscribers. This doesn't mean the censored viewpoints are incorrect. Unfortunately, this type of "premature" censorship sometimes can backfire if the viewpoint that was "ostracized" turns out to be correct. But in the final analysis, just because you disagree doesn't mean you're right!
