Yes.... sort of. Oddly enough a sort of confirmation comes from
the famous Trent photo, #1, which shows a (nearly) elliptical
image. Careful examination of the left side of the (nearly)
elliptical image (need a good blowup) shows that the smoothly
curved elliptical shape which one would expect for a perfectly
circular craft viewed obliquely, is "broken" by 2 short
apparently straight segments that meet forming a dull "point"
just to the right and above (in the picture) the leftmost
portion of the edge of the image. The two (nearly) straight
segments take up roughly 15% of the total circumference
(perimeter) of the "elliptical" image.

I should point out that photo 2 shows that there is a
dissimilarity in the shape of the "superstructure" (flat-topped
"dome") at the left side as compared to the right side. This
dissimilarity is probably correlated with the slightly different
shapes at the right (elliptical) and left (not elliptical)
sides.
