Dennis, this sort of anthropomorphism begins to resemble
theology more than a quest for extraterrestrial intelligence.
And in that regard, I am reminded of what the Christian mystic,
Sir Thomas Ockham, had to say about deciphering the motives of
God.

"Whatever you say about God is necessarily false."

I could speculate about possible motives for our galactic elders
to visit -- visiting their genetic offspring, exploration, the
benevolence that may come with infinite affluence, for instance.
But those guesses might have as little to do with an actual
reason as a numeric estimate of the number of angels that can
dance on the head of a pin.

Who knows, perhaps we are kin to the visitors in the same way
that you and I are related to that Bulgarian.

And speaking of Bulgarians, if you told me you were visited by
one, even as cheerful and credible as you are, how could I rely
on your mere anecdote? To answer my own question, I would say
just as the courtroom and newspaper rely on personal testimony
to form conclusions, observations of UFOs by credible witnesses
should be dismissed only by those who don't care about the
ultimate nature of the cosmos.

Regards,

Pat McCartney
