Perhaps J.B. is part of a quantum mechanical experiment (ref.
'Schroeinger's Cat'). If we "look" he suddenly becomes either
alive, or dead, but not partway between. While we are not
looking he is in a "mixed state" with the proportions between
the two states (dead, alive) changing continually.

I guess Santilli is quite the quantum mechanic........
