I invite any interested list members to observe the Full Moon,
even within a day or two of Full, with the unaided eye and
compare your view with the arcs and spots proposed in this
theory. Coming Full Moons will be May 15, June 13, July 13 and
August 11.

One of the most prominent features is the "left eye" of the "Man
in the Moon", composed of the Sea of Serenity and Sea of
Tranquility, with the Seas of Fertility and Nectars and their
connecting plains forming two elongated prominent "fingers". In
fact, in some American Indian folklore these form either the
head or a rabit when coming up in the East, with the fingers
being the ears, or to others are a frog, when setting in the
West, with the fingers representing the legs.

The proposed map would depict these prominent "fingers" only as
small dark spots. To the naked eye, the Seas of Fertility and
Nectars do not appear as round small spots. The upper arc might
match the appearance of Mare Frigoris, the "forehead" of the
Man, but the three arcs are not obvious to me.

>The circular limb of the moon is not included in the carving. Dr
>Stooke believes that it may have been drawn on the rock with
>chalk or with coloured paint.

In other words, all other possible features, dots, arcs, etc.,
beyond those shown were not included. I would think that a
circle to indicate the shape and boundary of the Moon would be
necessary. Seems weak to me. Take a look yourselves and judge.

Clear skies,
Bob Young
