Subject: P-47: UFO History: A Call for Papers
To: UFO Historians and Other UFO Researchers
PROJECT 1947 requests the following for publication:
1. Summaries of serious projects currently conducted by
individuals and organizations. Summaries should not be more than
one page. While we would like to know about investigations
concerning historical material, summaries of other projects that
adhere to scientific or scholarly principles or that are
conducted in a methodical manner, are most welcome. Please
include contact information.
2. Articles, notes, little known items on historical UFO
subjects and research techniques:
a. The History of the UFO Phenomena: The natural history, that
is the history of the phenomenon itself, history of UFO
investigations, society's reactions to UFOs, etc.,
b. Research Techniques: how to conduct historical
investigations, FOIA strategies, suggestions of likely avenues
of investigations, etc.,
c. Related Historical Items: historical items on unusual
shaped or performing aircraft (V-173, XF5U-1, Silver Bug,
etc.), other unusual phenomena (ball lightning, sprites,
earthquake lights, etc.), and sociological items ("War of the
Worlds" broadcasts reactions, etc.)
d. New accounts of historical sightings or significant new
information on older sightings, significant news items that
have not seen wide distribution, and
e. Other UFO Investigations: attempted scientific or other
methodical investigations of the UFO phenomenon or sightings.
(For example: How did the Civilian Saucer of Investigations of
Los Angeles conduct their investigations and evaluation. This
is probably a question that we will never be able to answer,
however they did subject sightings to a rigorous evaluation
process.)
Articles, notes, short items, material that has not seen wide
distribution or material that has not been published are most
welcome. We intend to bring out a publication or place the
material on a dedicated UFO history website which features
lists of serious ongoing projects and interesting articles.
(The Project 1947 website will not be used for this purpose,
but the Internet medium will be a new dedicated UFO history
website.)
Generally, we consider historical UFO material would include,
but be necessarily limited to, pre-1947 items, material from the
early UFO era to the end of Project Blue Book. Later items will
also be considered.
My personal contribution is an interview with a retired Air
Force general, "I Was the First UFO Investigator!"
It should go without saying that material outside of the US is
most welcome.
Please submit material to jan@cyberzone.net or
project1947@yahoo.com or to the postal address below:
Comments and suggestions are welcome.
Please feel free to redistribute of this message widely.
Thank you.
