Dennis-

Boeing's only supersonic projects were a surface-to-air guided
missile called GAPA, first flown Jan. '46:

and its descendent, BOMARC:

I think GAPA had been revealed to the public by 1947, hence the
comments by Arnold's buddies that the objects he saw were some
kind of guided missiles. Boeing had a test facility at Moses
Lake, so there may have been some basis for the concept.
