If our goal is to confirm the earliest abduction report, so as to eliminate (or at least reduce) the impact of the media in the sub-concious recall of abduction events, then the timing of the "report" is far more critical than the timing of the "event". Research into the African "myth" should certainly take place, but while it will certainly be of interest, it would likely have limited value in showing that classic abduction reports involving "greys" are far older than we had imagined. I have no specific knowledge regarding the specific myth being discussed above, but I have a couple of general comments: The late Joseph Campbell devoted much of his life to the study of myths, and found that nearly every culture has common myths that he suggested may be (at least the roots of which may be) programmed deep in our brain. Certainly the myth of creatures that come in the night and terrorize villages can be found throughout the world. As we review these myths we see parallels with the abduction phenomenon, and some have postulated that there is a connection. Unfortunately, this requires interpretation that is often based on little more than speculation (and in some cases pre-disposed belief). These interpretations can be supported by other evidence (such as drawings or writings), but often those are written in the technology of the day, which then requires further interpretation to apply the abudction theory. All in all, I find this research very interesting, but I also believe that's it's unlikely to lead to any answers regarding the phenomenon. Of course, I'd like to be proved wrong. Steve
