Lyne, copyright 1993, 1995 >>Revised and expanded second edition >>ISBN 0-9637467-1-5 >>$17.95 >>William R. Lyne >Total. >Not partial. >Total. >Wacko. >>Tell us Bruce, which part of the information is totally Wacko? >>The idea that Tesla may have had something to do with UFO >>design and propulsion? >>Or the claims that Tesla could have contribuited anything >>to today's technology? >>I would be interested in knowing. What did it for me, Mike, were the references to the Illuminati's role in suppressing Tesla's technology. This is a classic delusion more typical of schizophrenia than of serious thinking. Combine that with the tampering of Maxwell's Equation (!!), the Nazis' flying saucer program and the 24, nuclear-armed Nazi submarines that scuttled themselves, and you begin to see a pattern of serious delusion. Either that, or Tim Matthews drained a case of bad Gripple or overdosed on meth. Seriously, if you've ever had a _long_ conversation with a paranoid schizophrenic or two, they can tell intriguing stories of the most complex and detailed conspiracies. Depending on the sophistication of the deluded person, you can buy into their tale -- until you hit a logical roadblock that shakes you out of your credulity. I once met a guy in the Los Angeles area who was convinced his suburban neighborhood had been taken over by illicit drug manufacturers, and the police were in on it. I took copious notes over a period of three or four meetings before he took me for a drive to show me the suspect homes. Finally, he took me close to one home and asked, "Can you smell it? That's the drugs being cooked." I sniffed and smelled the aroma of orange blossoms. Looking up, I pointed out an orange tree in bloom a few feet from the "suspect's" home. The bottom line? That fellow was a sincere but deluded crank. Yet he couldn't hold a candle to the cosmic delusions of William Lyne. Don't be taken in by one or two logical possibilities -- Tesla's inventions are the source of earthly UFOs -- and a seductive premise. Look at the overall structure of the fable -- which is completely bonkers, as Bruce Maccabee so accurately pointed out. Respectfully, Pat McCartney
