UFOs Sighted
by Donna Kelly
Reports made by "people above question"
Two separate sightings of UFOs over Alice Springs and Arltunga
have been reported to police in the past week by people "above
question".
In the first an Eastside resident reported a "large flaming
orange ball" In the sky on Monday last week. A police spokesman
said the report of the "fireball" moving north was received
about 9pm.
The object was estimated to be the size of a small aircraft,
with an altitude that varied from 80 meters to 400 meters.
"During the nine_ minutes sighting the object was observed
moving sporadically around the sky, which the witness believes
would be inconsistent with a hot air balloon," the spokesman
said.
"The resident told police the object then moved north of the
town at an "incomprehensible" speed and disappeared to the
northwest. Police reported the sighting to aviation authorities.
The second sighting came when an Alice Springs resident returned
to a developing outlet after he found a blur in the background
of a photo taken at Arltunga at about 2pm on Sunday, April 18th.
It was found part of the negative, and when enlarged, showed a
white metallic disc-like object in the sky. He reported the
sighting of the object which had definite sides, to police last
Thursday. Alice Springs UFO Researcher Keith Douglass said he
received about two sightings every month, but was sure there
were many more which went unreported. "Two calls a month is a
lot for the size of the population here" he said. "But I think
many people don't report sighting because they are worried about
being ridiculed." Mr. Douglass said the most sightings were to
the west of Alice Springs, but some occurred in the east.
The two most recent sightings came from people "who were above
Question" They want to remain anonymous because they are in
positions which could suffer if their identities were known," he
said. DH.
