I believe Tesla wanted to transmit power "through the air" to receivers everywhere... _but_... that power had to be generated... and paid for... at the source. Not "free. Westinghouse realized that he couldn't make any money on power transmitted through the atmosphere....but could make money on power lines, so didn't support Tesla's "atmosphere" power transmission. Incidently, it is my opinion that if the Tesla power transmission system had become operational... it would have generated too much electrical (radio frequency) noise for the weak signals from the original radio transmitters to be detected by the early receivers which were not very frequency selective. Hence it seems to me possible that if Tesla's power system had been developed we might not have radio (or at least it wouldn't have begun as early in the 20th century as it did)
