From: Keith Woodard <qwoodard@worldnet.att.net> Date: Sat, 15 May 1999 19:17:48 -0700 Fwd Date: Sun, 16 May 1999 10:31:47 -0400 Subject: The 'Battle of Los Angeles' - Redux On the last day of 1998, Jan Aldrich brought this thread to a close by with the remark: "Basically, they were probably firing at their own meteorological balloon." Peter Brookesmith gave the distinct impression of a nod of approval at this analysis. Jan went on to caution: "The incident is more complex than just one Met. balloon. Some documents are still not available." On one of my mailing lists, skepticism is being expressed that a searchlight-illumined weather balloon could be subjected to, as Larry Hatch put it, "1430 Anti-Aircraft shells (and who knows what else)... to no effect." Does anyone have explanation for this? Keith
