UFO UpDates Mailing List
From: Tim Mathews <TMMatthews99@aol.com> Date: Wed, 09 Feb 2000 18:13:33 -0500 (EST) Fwd Date: Thu, 10 Feb 2000 07:18:02 -0500 Subject: The British National UFO Research Association Dear UpDates, Although the rebirth of objective British Ufology has been delayed for a week things are now back on schedule. A group of us have formed the National UFO Research Association (NUFORA) and the launch takes place on Saturday 4th March at the Patten Arms Hotel, Parker Street, Warrington, Cheshire (UK) - opposite Bank Quay railway station - from 11am to 8pm approx. The launch forms part of a wide ranging event featuring information on paranormal, psychic and UFO activity featuring a host of speakers. Tickets cost just £5. A mass mailing of some 2,000 people is planned and will take place over the next few months as funds allow. NUFORA is a membership organisation. For just £10 a year a member receives six informative bi-monthly newsletters and membership is given on the understanding that the fee supports UFO research and investigation. Members do not have voting rights, cannot sit on committees and cannot, by right, affect NUFORA policy. Nevertheless, an AGM will be held whereby members are invited to attend in order to express their opinions. Our success is dependent upon their continued support. Members may also apply to join our new Members Only Forum on onelist.com. There are two other NUFORA lists - for investigators and for the organiser's group. These are already in operation. You are encouraged to participate and NUFORA General Secretary Carolyn Buckley awaits your enquiry; cosmiccarrie@hotmail.com NUFORA is an objective research association dedicated to the highest standards of investigation; investigators will be required to attend an initial training day in mid-May, will be required to attend subsequent follow-up days, to sit a simple initial examination and to read books from the NUFORA list. They will be issued with a yearly "license" which can be withdrawn should he/she not comply fully with the NUFORA Code of Conduct. NUFORA aims to train a new generation of UFO researchers... The Director of Training is Steve Mera - whose work is both well-known and well-respected in the UK. His British Investigators Training Course (BITC) is the foundation for NUFORA R+I activities and is based upon an earlier course designed in 1976. Gloria Dixon has very kindly agreed to assist us in training NUFORA investigators and will speak at the May event. Research into the Paranormal will also be encouraged and similar standards will be put in place. (In any case, the parallels between UFO and Paranormal cases are very blurred.) Despite the fact that these are early days, many of us feel that the time has come to strike out and work on our own in cooperation with other objective researchers. We all believe that we have what it takes to revolutionise the way in which Ufology is practised both here and abroad. These are _not_ the usual empty promises and rhetoric to which many of us have become accustomed - we are known for our ability to carry things through, to produce the best work and to generate vital public interest in the subject. We are already aware of several academics interested in privately assisting us. A major "earth lights" research project is scheduled for this Summer and will be undertaken in conjunction with Roger Markman of the Bacup UFO Centre. NUFORA will, of course, be a politics free association and we encourage you to help us push back the boundaries of knowledge and to fight for a New Ufology in the New Millennium.
