Subject: A Trek to Rachael & Tikaboo From: kavanaghny@aol.com (KavanaghNY) Date: 3 Jul 1995 19:29:04 -0400 Message-ID: <3t9ug0$qdi@newsbf02.news.aol.com> Below is a short summary of a small trek I took to the town of Rachael and Tikaboo Peak. I have posted it because I think some of you may have an interest to justr look it over On June 21 I headed out towards Rachael from Las Vegas. Once I was about 7 miles out of the downtown area on 93N I was in the middle of the desert with small sage bursh scattered out thinly. At 3:25 PM at the 87.1 mile marker there was a traffic stoppage in the middle of no where a lady in a uniform of some sort held of a stop sign and I waited for about twenty minutes until a pickup truck coming from the north told her something and she backed off and signaled me to go. About two miles down the road I could see a lot of dust off to the east but no vehicles or people that could be the reason to why I stopped. Under the directions provided in Campbell's Viewer's Guide I turned off at marker 32.2 to the west to scout out the road to Tikaboo all seamed fine and I turned around once I reached the first and only cattle fence on the road. Later at 5:42 I reached the Black Mailbox on Hwy. 375. Already there was a bunch of young German men who included this place as part of their graduation gift; a trip through the United States. [ Their license plate said "DIPLOMAT" on it, can anyone give me more information on why it would say that? ] Soon after I pulled over I heard 2 sonic booms a minute later an A-10 approached over our heads heading W NW. The two have to be unrelated because the Warthog is not a mach aircraft. Much farther down the road was Rachael with it's Little A'LE'INN the place where I would stay the night. When I first entered the Bar/motel two folks were working away at the slot machines I was then greated by a friendly middle aged lady Pat Travis. The place seems to have much hospitality even though it appears to have once been another of the many mobilehomes in the town. I sat down at the bar and next to me was chuck investigating an obviously hoaxed UFO picture. He and two other fellows were busily investigating the photo to find what characteristics made it fake. The photo was of a silver frizbee with a model of a B-1 Lancer booth hung from a tree. I later asked Chuck what he usually sees when observing from the Black Mailbox what he spoke sounded like "mostly S-4s and Stealth Helicopters". I later learned (from Tom Clancy) that infact the AH-66 Comanchee was(is?) being tested at Nellis and Groom. As for the S-4..... . After I finished my drink I admired the abundance of UFO memrobilia on the walls. I noticed a large panaromic shot of Groom Lake. The credits below included a credit "Published by Glenn Campbell" blotted out with a black marker. Around dusk I left the bar and walked down a road parallel to 375 to the "Area 51 RESEARCH CENTER". I saw Campbell's travelling car but he was not home. In his front lawn? There was a tail of what appeared to be a crashed F-4 Phantom. At 9PM I drove out the Black Mailbox again to see if there was any activity in the skies. Nobody else was there. The only activity I did see was the firing of a missle around the area behind Freedom Ridge. The missle quickly disappeared from my view behind the mountains. The aircraft that fired the missle was illuminated briefly when it launched it's missle but I could not discern the type of plane it was. It had no navigational lights on. The next morning at exactly 7am I shot down to Tikaboo. Briefly after I passed the gravel pit on 375 near I could see some dust rising from a vehicle that was slowly moving down Groom Lake road. I gunned my vehicle up to about 94mph which would be quite dangerous if I hit one of the cows I see every once in awhile. I reached the point along 375 where it meets Groom Lake road. I got out of the car and with my binoculars I could easily see that it was two vehicles travelling down the road. One was a white pickup truck, I don't know the make, that had a license plate which read US AIRFORCE 87B 4449 For Official Use Only -in small print The other vehicle was a truck that was hauling in tow a field unit that looked like this _________ / \ (on the back were instructions on how to deploy it) FRONT | | BACK |___ ___| ( Best I can do with ASCII ) // ~~~~ \\ ( ) ( ) This may be a standard field unit that is very common tell me if you know. The vehicle that was hauling this had on the side of it USAF 87K 2100. Once they became blurry on my binoculars I pulled back on the 375 and continued to Tikaboo. Five miles on the dirt access road to Tikaboo I see to the right a sandy cliff face with small caves all over it. I wonder what type of rock it is? When I went back to my car after I got out to investigate the caves I found that I had left my car in Drive but the grade was sloped enough so that it wound move...lucky me. Once I reached the apparent end of the road I began to hike. As I went I fixed many cairns and added many more. After approximately an hour and a half I reached Tikaboo peak and WOW WHAT A VIEW. After I rest from the all the excitement I notice that a fortification has been built up here to fight som war. I even found a few .22 shells, most likely a futile attempt to shoot down a UFO. I searched around a little built and found that some gratious person left 2 chairs, flags, spoons & forks, candles, matches, nutri-grain bars and some freeze dried camping dinners, I could live on this stuff for almost a week! Nearby in a rock cubby hole with a blue sleeping bag over it I found the shrine for Our Lady of the Black Budget with her statue and four candels. There was about 2 dollars there. I left a buck and some change. I fixed up all the fortifications walls as best as I could and then began to observe. On the horizon; To my west is Tikaboo Valley where you can easily pickout all the roads as well as looking at a map. Groom Lake AFB is about 30' South of West. To the East is the mountainous area where I hiked through. 20' East of South I see what appears to be a nuclear test ground....I could be incorrect though. I spent about 45 minutes looking around and then I went back down...fixing even more cairns. I reached my car at 2:30pm and then headed back to Las Vegas. Throughout the rest of my trip I checked out two other things. -In Boron, California I failed to see any UFOs. This would not firm up Jerod's claims. -In Yosemite 3 F-16s roared through the main valley, interesting yet not unusual. KavanaghNY@aol.com PS Chuckie seems to be a very nice guy in person.....please don't be too rough with him in this news group. ------------------ Subject: Re: A Trek to Rachael & Tikaboo From: dadams@netcom.com (Dean Adams) Date: Thu, 6 Jul 1995 11:50:44 GMT Message-ID: KavanaghNY wrote: > Below is a short summary of a small trek I took to the >town of Rachael and Tikaboo Peak. Hmm... I guess the only thing we can derive from that is that Chuck doesn't know what he's talking about. Probably *nobody* knows what he is talking about when he says "S-4s", perhaps that is his term for branding a 737 a "UFO" (a la Sean Morton). And I also doubt very much he has ever seen a stealth helicopter... > I later learned (from Tom Clancy) that infact the AH-66 Comanchee > was(is?) being tested at Nellis and Groom. No, the first RAH-66 has not even flown yet. BUT there has apparently been an ongoing test program for some other stealthy/NOTAR type copter prototypes in the Nellis Range. > After I finished my drink I admired the abundance of UFO memrobilia > on the walls.
