1989-1990 Belgian Incidents

A series of sightings in Belgium from the end of 1989 through early 1990 represents one of the most witnessed UFO events since the Hudson Valley observations of the early to mid 1980s. The object observed was large, triangular in shape, sometimes slow moving, sometimes rapidly moving, and returned to a limited geographic area several times. In some cases, the observations seem clearly to be of triangular formations of lights rather than a single object, since the formations dispersed.

These incidents were witnessed by hundreds if not thousands of witnesses, videotapes were made, and one startling still photo. Radar detections accompanied the sightings, and interceptors vectored to the locations corroborated the ground-based radar observations.

Many IFOs as well as UFOs were part of this event. Because of the publicity, stars were sometimes mistaken for the object, as were conventional aircraft - however, there were many sightings not so easily explained.

The following incidents are described in detail:

11/29/89 - near Eupen, Belgium, two police officers, many other witnesses, ground-based radar detection, twilight

3/30-31/90 - near Wavre, Belgium, police officers, ground-based and airborne radar detection, including performance graph.

4/4 or 7/90 - Petit-Rechain photograph.
