This image comprises several enduring themes - the unity of human life, business,
nature, and technology; the fractal surprises of reality, and my love for combining
different scales into one.
Originally intended as a relaxation piece to provide a break from my work on
the (currently unfinished) Zadar in its hangar,
it quickly became far more complex, feeding on a hike in the autumn woods on
Mt. Tom in Massachusetts and my flight to California for rich color imagery
and patterns.
It ended up reflecting a variety of recurring patterns, such as the near ring
of leaves that echoes the lacy chaotic thickenings in the clouds, the windows
of the factory that echo the buttons on the phone, and the patterns of the rug
that echo the composition of the desk and the corners of the deskpad.
For more on the complex techniques used in this image, see the Workshop
article "The Making
of The True Relationship".
