| Identified | 1/16/97; 10:45-11:15PM, Meriden - Two drivers in separate cars on I-691 driving west (toward I-84) observe flashing blue lights to the south of the highway when passing East Peak, at about 15 degrees behind their vehicles (sightline analysis indicates this crosses the densest part of Meriden); the flashes are on 5-8 secs and off for a similar period for three bursts, a 1 minute pause and then two bursts of the same pattern. No object seen. Discussion with officials in Customer Service and Engineering for CL&P indicate that Meriden was the area hardest hit by an ice storm, and the lights seen are likely to be downed and arcing power lines or some similar problem (investigated by Mark Cashman) | 1/98 |
