April 8, 1966, Close Encounter in Norwalk CT 10/97
Close Encounters March 14, 1966, Westport, CT, "an English girl claimed [a flaming red object] came down on the Boston Post Road... and she almost ran into it."[footnote 1] 12/97
March 12, 1967, Coventry, CT "'At the cross road, we saw this glare coming over - straight at us. Cheryl froze up and let go of the wheel. We nearly went off the road. The thing looked as though it would ram us. All we could see was one round rim in a blinding white light.' He estimated the object was about 20 to 25 feet up - 'as high as the trees.' After the light passed the car, the three stopped and looked back, but saw nothing. They did not get out of the car."[footnote 2] 12/97
September 15, 1967, Landing with occupants in Winsted, CT 10/97
Sunday, August 1, 1976, New Haven, CT, "A man told police he had been buzzed by a 'round, silver, dish-shaped object' which froze his car and perhaps took his picture as he was driving on Rt 63... about 6PM... between Bethany and New Haven. As the UFO passed overhead, he said, the engine of his car died, and the car came to a stop. When he tried to leave the vehicle, he said, the door wouldn't budge, and he began to feel 'tingly'. Eventually, he too became 'paralyzed'. While this was going on... an object which might have taken his snapshot appeared below the low flying disk.[footnote 3] Finally... it flew off."[footnote 4] 12/97
Nocturnal lights 1934 May or June, Winsted CT, Midnight, Two witnesses observe large bright oval apparently landing on mountain about 1 mile away. 12/97
August 4, 1952, Mrs. Daniel O. M. Hamstrom, Groton, CT, night, "there were seven or eight of them... and the one in the lead had 'scalloped edges'... all of them were... between 15 and 30 feet, and they moved at a speed which enabled her to focus a telescope on them."[footnote 5] Sighting was near General Dynamics, nuclear submarine manufacturer. 12/97
September 6, 1952, 10:10 p. m., observation of glowing ellipse by guards and prison work detail at Enfield Prison described in this account of GOC and CD involvement in UFO cases 12/97 updated 12/14/97
December 9, 1952, 7 AM, Derby CT, Academy Hill, near Derby Reservoir, "Daniel Jones... was driving to work... [when he saw] suspended in the air above the reservoir.. what appeared to be three circles of fire, each about twenty feet in diameter... after [getting out of the car and] staring at them for several minutes... they finally went off in a southerly direction."[footnote 6] 12/97
December 7 (?), 1960, night, between Portland and East Hampton, CT, "Leo DeGraff, a senior at [Vinal Regional Technical School said] the object [was visible for several seconds] standing still in the dark sky about 300 to 500 feet higher than a nearby telephone pole. On either side of the object were lights, one red and one green. Small white lights were visible along the outline... observing from outside their car, the two boys [DeGraff and Wayne Rich] watched the object hover [silently], then move off slowly to the side. Finally it speeded up and disappeared into the clouds."[footnote 7] 12/97
December 14, 1960, 10 PM, Portland, CT, "two Portland residents... watched a haloed 'saucer' through binoculars for twenty minutes last night... Mrs. William Bastel [saw] the object as she looked out a north window... it moved around the sky about a third of the way up, travelling toward the west. It continued around to the south and east, then appeared to stand still for a short time. Starting up again, it soon vanished... It looked 'like a dinner plate'... but at times a conical form was also noted. 'metallic' lights... varied in color. The halo encompassing the object was of a yellow-orange hue. One white light was also observed, and a red light glowed irregularly. It appeared to move in a pulsating manner, something like a jellyfish... After pausing in the eastern sky briefly, the object picked up speed and disappeared."[footnote 8] 12/97
Wednesday, March 2, 1966, Westport, CT, 9PM, "...over the roof of a neighbor's house, [Hank] Humphrey saw a flaming red ball come out of the sky, hover in the constellation Leo, [explode] twice, turn white and soar off into space... for 30 minutes, he and his wife and children watched the red ball."[footnote 9] 12/97
Wednesday, March 9 (?), 1966, Westport, CT, night "[Police Sgt.] DeMattio... got a call... 'there's a red ball in the sky', [he] went outside with his binoculars... [he] watched the flaming ball travel across the sky for six minutes - from 10:27 to 10:33 PM. It flickered a bit, but didn't make any noise... it blinked a couple of times, turned white, and disappeared... DeMattio said the ball was about half the size of a football, Humphrey said the one he saw (see Wednesday, March 2, 1966, Westport, CT) was much smaller, a little larger than the planet Venus."[footnote 10] Note that the police chief also briefly observed the object. 12/97
Tuesday, April 5, 1966, Hartford, CT, 7:30PM, "Ted Nestor and his sister Karen, West Hartford teenagers... caught sight of... three separate objects, each with a bright light the size of a traffic light rotating around it [, which they saw from the corner of Asylum Ave. and Trout Brook Drive]... Other reports also told of an object that remained stationary in the sky over one spot and having bright red lights, also between 7:30 and 8:30 PM."[footnote 11] 12/97
Friday, September 30, 1966, Hartford, CT, 8:30 PM, "... an observer at The Courant on Broad Street, a man on Fern Street, the teenagers on Lexington Rd, W. Htfd, a group of youngsters in the Charter Oak Terrace area, and a man on Natick Street all reported seeing a UFO... the object swung an arc from West Hartford to New Britain, and then towards Wethersfield... 'It hovered over the garage and it was big with bright white lights in a circle and the only noise it made was a quiet whistle, like the wind.'... then it went straight up and took off south."[footnote 12] 12/97
January, 1967, Lakeville flap, photographic case analyzed by the Condon Committee. Dr. William K. Hartmann notes that "the image bears a strong resemblance to a slitless spectrogram of an annular emission-line source." If that were the case, this would represent unique evidence of the type of light emitted by a UFO. 2/99

February 8, 1967, Winsted, CT, night "That glowing object in the sky was visible for 15 minutes, moved slowly against the wind during all that time, and disappeared in the distance with flashes of red and green."[footnote 14]

Friday, September 1, 1967, night, "the two boys said they observed a [round and whitish yellow] object about the size of a baseball moving quickly and steadily from east to west, finally disappearing over the horizon. They said it made no sound... four policemen.. watched a round, yellow and white object travel distantly in the sky in a half circle, dissolve into the clouds, return and circle again, and then disappear for good... [it was] about the size of a dime and moved as quickly as any jet at a steady pace without sound.. [there was] a difficult to see red glow at the tail of the object and a flashlight like beam emanating from its underside... [there were other witnesses]... a Hartland woman said she saw an object through a pair of seven power binoculars which looked like a plus sign marked out by two dots of light on each arm, and a bright yellow and orange center light... she described a sound somewhat like the low hum of an air conditioner."[footnote 15] 12/97

[it was] a round object with a white light in its center and red and blue lights around its edge. It was surrounded by a 'glow' or 'halo'... [it was] moving east and was about 500 to 600 feet above the ground. It stopped over the school for about 20 seconds, and then continued east, going "beep, beep" as it went."[footnote 17]
