Art Created With Imagine For The Amiga

If you've just arrived over a webring, as a result of an e-mail to the IML list, or across a link from another site, welcome to the Temporal Doorway! The bottom of the page contains information for finding your way around the rest of this fairly large site.

If you haven't visited here for a while, you may wish to press your browser's Reload button to ensure you see the latest version of this page.

This section of The Temporal Doorway is focused on images created with Impulse, Inc.'s Imagine, rendered on the Amiga computer (in fact, a couple of the early images were created with Turbo Silver, the predecessor to Imagine).

All of these images required more than just mastery of Imagine. Most of my 3D projects require extensive use of image processing to prepare suitable texture bitmaps and backgrounds. I have used Pixmate (out of production), Art Department Pro (now called Elastic Reality, but not on the Amiga platform), and Image FX (available for the Amiga from Nova Design) most frequently. Some renderings also required the use of a landscape design program such as World Construction Set. Human figures in these images are from the Humanoid object set produced by Crestline Software. Some of the other objects are from the Syndesis 3DROM (now owned by Viewpoint) but most were developed by the author. In some cases, the image was post-processed, often by painting in features or shadows.

Explanations of how I synthesize these techniques into a single image are covered in my art Workshop (for instance, see the description of the Making Of The Ringclimber Illustration or The Making of "Electricity Of Life").

My objective in using 3D software is to produce as realistically fantastic an image as possible. At the same time, each work must meet the same standards that make any artwork of value - balance in composition, color, depth, lighting and texture. Thus, if you compare these images to others in my Gallery, you will not find differences in essentials.

Each image was created for a particular purpose - to learn a technique, to illustrate one of my novels, to document a possibly real event, or to produce symbolically interesting conceptual art. Most of the images below support a click-through to a descriptive page with a full-size version of the image, or a click through to the place where the full-sized image is used. Those which don't eventually will as their images are added to the site during one of the monthly shows. Enjoy!
