The Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects

Blenheim, NZ, 1959

A new recreation of an observation by Mrs. Moreland, wife of an RNZAF (Royal New Zealand Air Force) officer, on the morning of July 13, 1959. The object was observed at close range, showed a well defined behavior, displayed a "cockpit" within which two "beings" were observed, emitted light, heat, and may have caused medical effects in the witness.

UFOs are a fascinating phenomenon which can be studied scientifically. There are potential experiments relating to UFOs which offer the opportunity to do good science on a subject that has received relatively little scientific attention.

Content

  • Collections Of UFO Cases - Thousands of UFO cases in a searchable database, and various catalogs of cases. Includes the historically valuable Magonia and BUFORA Vehicle Interference catalogs.

  • Classification Systems - Classification is the first step to finding patterns in the data. These offer a variety of possible perspectives

  • Analysis - Data sources such as catalogs provide a wealth of data. Careful analysis can offer insights into possible patterns in the data.

  • Hypotheses Concerning The Causes Of UFO Reports - Various hypotheses have been advanced concerning the causes of UFO reports, ranging from misperception through manifestations from other dimensions. These papers offer a scientifically-oriented perspective on selected hypotheses.

  • Physical Evidence - Scientific analysis of physical effects, residue, and materials thought to be connected to UFO events.

  • Issues and Controversies

Personally Investigated Cases

These are cases where I have participated in the investigation and documentation of a UFO event. Note: These cases are stored at the MUFON CT website, which I webmaster. I am currently State Director for MUFON CT.

Nocturnal lights 8/19/97 - Windsor, CT, 9:50 PM, two diamond formations at less than 1/4 mi distance, triangulated, speed measurements (Large document with maps and images, be patient while it loads) (Evaluation - Unidentified) (Added 8/98)

4/19/98 - Middlefield, CT, 9:30 PM, a formation of three very bright lights, triangulated with distance measurements, luminosity and energy estimates. (Evaluation - Unidentified) (Added 8/98)
Daylight sightings 12/13/99 - Collinsville, CT, 3:30 PM - daytime observation of two unusual objects at fairly close range by four witnesses.
Close Encounters

7/15/95 - Harwinton, CT, 2:45 PM, two witnesses observe large (200 foot) disk at close range (200-500 feet) for a period of 10-30 secs. (Large document with maps and images, be patient while it loads) (Evaluation - Unidentified) (Added 7/99)

9/9/97 - West Hartford, CT; midnight, family observed large triangular object which passed over their house at an estimated altitude of 50 feet; structural details were observed (Large document with maps and images, be patient while it loads) (Evaluation - Possible witness exaggeration) (Added 8/98)

Physical Evidence

A metal artifact was recovered by the witnesses to a 1956 UFO sighting in Sweden. Is it a mundane object? If you know what it is, let us know.

Guest Papers

  • Antonio Rullan's excellent Levelland paper is now on-line, offer the most complete analysis of the most famous vehicle interference case.

  • A panorama based on four frames from a video taken in Mexico, August 6, 1997 (includes preliminary analysis by Bruce Maccabee, and comments on his final conclusions (12/19/98)).
